CM's Rs 80 crore gift to MLAs draw flak

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akilesh Yadav is making headlines across the country for all the wrong reasons. He recently announced that MLAs in the state can use Constituency Development Funds to buy personal vehicles.

Akilesh said that legislators can use up to Rs 20 lakhs out of the Rs 5 crore allotted to their constituency for the five year tenure. If all the 403 MLAs in the state buy a vehicle worth Rs 20 lakhs, then the cost to the state exchequer would be more than Rs 80 crore. The proposal of using public money to buy expensive cars has drawn strong criticism from several parties all over the Country.

As per the rules, Constituency Funds are not for personal benefits but for the development works. Using these funds for buying expensive vehicles will send wrong signals to the public. Will this Youngest CM takes back his proposal?
