Actress Pratyusha Case: SC issues notice to Prime Accused

Supreme Court issued notices to Siddharth Reddy, the prime accused in actress Pratyusha murder case, on Monday and directed him to give an explanation within four weeks.

Actress Pratyusha died under suspicious circumstances on February 24, 2002. The Gandhi Hospital doctors declared that it was a case of rape-cum-murder in the post-mortem report. The case was later handed over to CBI later. In the investigation report, the CBI has declared that Siddharth had driven Pratyusha to commit suicide. Siddartha Reddy was sentenced to six years imprisonment by a Nampally Sessions Court [he was charged under sections 302 (murder), 306 (abetment to suicide) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC].

Siddartha Reddy challenged the sessions court verdict in the High Court. The division bench of High Court has reduced the jail sentence from Six to Two years and a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on him. Not contend with the High Court verdict, he approached the Supreme Court and his petition came up for hearing Today and the judge has issued notices to the petitioner.
