IPS officer Umesh does vanishing trick

Police generally chase criminals. Now low-level policemen are chasing top IPS cop Umesh Kumar who is absconding, in a reversal of the crime scene.

The 1977 batch officer is charged with forging the signature of Rajya Sabha member MA Khan to make serious allegations against the DGP Dinesh Reddy. Despite summons, he chose not to attend the court. The court which has rejected his plea to exempt him from personal appearance, has issued Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against him on Thursday last.

Police who have been searching for him since then are still clueless. It is perhaps the first time that a senior IPS officer is absconding to avoid arrest. Police suspect him to be hiding somewhere in the Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad.

The officer who is presently Chairman of the Godavari Valley Authority is also not answering any phone calls. He is likely to come out of hiding only after he gets an anticipatory bail say police sources. His lawyers are likely to point that he has life threat as he had earlier worked in the Grey Hounds anti-naxalite force and seek bail.
