Story:
Rahul (Nitin) is a happy go lucky guy, who gets attracted by Priya (Nithya Menon), his co passenger on a flight. Unexpected things happen and after initial cat fights, they both turn good friends. After sometime they fall in love with each other and when things seem brighter, Priya’s elder brother Shiva (Ajay) enters the scene. Rahul and Shiva had a fight in the past and that is enough for Shiva to say no to Rahul’s love. What does he do to succeed in love is the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Ishq is a film targeted at younger crowds. It has young body, heart and soul and the first half of the movie lives up to the expectations more than expected. Second hour is about a single conflict that has to be obviously solved in the end in some or the other way.
So, the second half scenes run on a predictable note. Some scenes work big time in this hour. Rest of the film is flat without many surprises. Director tried to tell the routine story in a different format. He succeeded to some extent, but lost control over it during the penultimate scenes.
Situations looked forced towards the end. The film has been dragged for quite some time by then and so there won’t be any complaints because of the hurriedness in the end. Saying so, Ishq is not thoroughly entertaining. It is an attempt to keep the audience entertained all the way. More comedy in the flow might have helped the cause. On a whole it is a time pass entertainer which would help you to kill some time.
Performances:
Nitin did a nice job. He has grown in confidence as an actor and there is ease in his body language. Nithya Menon is impressive. She is one of the finest actresses that are in business now. Ajay is splendid as Nithya’s brother. He is too good an actor and this role gives him ample scope to prove his skills. Rest of the star cast doesn’t have much to do. Everyone did their part among the support cast.
Technicalities:
Music by Anup is very good. Lachamma song is rocking. Cinematography by PC Sriram is splendid. Editing is fine. Dialogues are good too. The production quality is up to the mark. Director Vikram Kumar is very talented. Certain scenes show how good a director he is. He can do wonders with a solid script. Definitely a talent to watch out for.
Final Word:
Ishq is a romantic entertainer told in a commercial format. Not bad for one time watch. We have to wait for the box office fate of the film.
