Eega defeats Businessman collections

Director Ram Gopal Varma predicted that Eega would turn out to be the first Telugu film which would cross the magical Rs 100 mark. Well the movie though opening to record collections worldwide doesn’t look getting anywhere near the Rs 100 mark, as the theatre occupancies dipped since the third week onwards even though there are quite a few theatres that are running to packed houses in some centers.

But director Rajamouli has shown a well made film can do well irrespective of whether it has a superstar or an insect playing the lead. The film may not have gone on to become the highest grossing film in Tollywood but it has managed to end up as one of the highest grossing films of all time behind the likes of Dookudu and Magadheera.

With a combined gross collection(share) of Rs 57 crores in Telugu and Tamil, the film has apparently surpassed Mahesh Babu starrer, Businessman’s collections of Rs 44 crores. Three cheers to that.
