New Service Tax - A Death Blow To Actors

Government imposing a hefty service tax on Actors is drawing strong criticism from the Film Industry. Actors and TV Artists will be charged 12.36% service tax on their earnings from film assignments and endorsements. The new service tax will come into effect all over the country from this Monday itself.

With 30% Income Tax and 12.36% Service Tax imposed on their earnings, the people in the entertainment Industry could get a feeling that they aren't working for themselves, but for the Government as around 43% of their total income goes to the public exchequer.

Actors were questioning the government why don't it treat the Film Industry as any other Industry. Why this discrimination is against actors alone? Why didn't the government levy taxes on other professions too? The new service tax will indirectly affect the audience who throng theaters to watch their favorite stars as the increase of ticket prices in inevitable now. This Government really sucks!
