Blues let off hook by Queensland

New South Wales made a sturdy start to their bid to thwart Queensland's Sheffield Shield final ambitions, reaching 4 for 207 with the help of three dropped catches by the time rain brought an early close to day one of the match at the SCG.
The Blues were led at the top of the order by Phillip Hughes, who made 73 though he was dropped in the slips on four from the bowling of Ryan Harris. Simon Katich was turfed on the way to 42, and Brad Haddin also survived a chance in the slips before finishing the day unbeaten on 10.
Playing in Sydney after losing his place in the Australian ODI team, Harris was the most dangerous member of the Bulls' attack, snaring 3-69. Steve Magoffin bowled tidily and claimed the wicket of Hughes.
Queensland need to win outright to be assured of a place in the final, with third-placed Tasmania pressing for six points against South Australia in Adelaide.
